Police Dogs!

A little outside the regular coverage of "The Deca Report" is the subject of police dogs. But I stumbled over the website for the Montgomery County Department of Police's Canine Section of the Special Operations Division. See the County's K-9 heroes!

Established in 1961, the Montgomery County Police K-9 Section is made up of 19 officers and 24 dogs. Since 1961, 94 dogs have served in the unit.

The County uses a variety of breeds including German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers, Malinois, and Bloodhounds. The dogs get yearly physicals with a contracted veterinarian. They are fed high protein diets supplied by the county. The dogs live with their handlers and are a part of the handler's family. Once the dogs are retired, they stay on as pets with their handlers.

On a beautiful November day, Ajax and Deca visited the South Mountain Dog Park in New Jersey. They met some German Shepherd friends--Atticus and Sarge.

The pup, formerly know as "Fur," is now "Raven von Artemis." She left today for her new home in Rehobeth Beach, Delaware.

The "den" is empty.

There are lots of rules, but Rule 1 is dogs, including Blitz, are not allowed on the furniture!

As Raven winds down her stay in Silver Spring, she has had lots of visitors. Here, her friend Maria drops by to take her for a walk and for socialization. Thanks, Maria!

Since the plan is for Raven to go to her new home in Delaware later this week, there's only a few more days for Raven-Deca-Ajax pics! As you can see, Raven's ears are up!

Road Trip

A quick trip to New Jersey last week gave my parents a chance to meet Raven and Raven an opportunity to experience her first long car ride. Ajax and Deca went along too.

Zora at home!

Good news from Ashburn, Virginia. Deca's pup, Zora, has settled in well in her new home in Virginia, as you can tell from this photo. That's a good looking pup!
